Multiplying Fractions - Strategy 1 (Models) Accelerated Math
Please watch the following brief tutorial Multiplying Fractions Tutorial
Now use the strategy given in the tutorial and complete problems #1, 2, 7, 8, & 32 on page 50 of your practice workbook. I want you to use Smart Notebook so I can see the models that you created. When you are finished I want you to do a blog entry about using this strategy and include a PDF of your Smart Notebook page(s) with the problems you did. Use Keyword multiplying fractions with models

Accelerated Math Assignment Monday 1/28/08
Over the last several classes we have looked at adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. We have looked at generating strategies that included using models as well as mathematical skills and computations. Now we need to look at using an algorithm to add and subtract fractions. For your assignment you will have this one class period to produce a tutorial that applies an algorithm for adding and subtracting fractions. You may work independently or as small groups up to 3 people. The tutorial must walk the viewer step-by-step through how to add and subtract fractions. The way you choose to show this is up to your group, but however you choose to show it must work for adding and subtracting all fractions. The tutorial should include several examples showing the viewer how to apply the skill you are demonstrating and some opportunity for the viewer to practice on their own and check their answers. This assignment will be assessed and go into the gradebook. Do your best and ask questions if you have any.

Math:
O.K. the first thing I want everyone to do is work on their understanding of the various concepts of fractions. Some of you have a very firm grasp of the concept of Equivalent Fractions while others are still working on this understanding. Others are starting to develop their understanding of comparing fractions using the symbols >, <, or =. I need you to determine where you need to be working at this point. If you are working on equivalent fractions still then please do some of the activities under the heading Equivalent Fractions. If you are working on Comparing Fractions then you should do the activities under that heading. If you need help with anything technical I have asked some students to be my helpers (Robyn and Kendall in Block 1; Hannah in Block 2). Good luck and I hope you develop a better understanding in whatever area you are working. After you have worked on these things for at least 40 minutes you may then work on any projects you are doing for a graded assignment in Math. If you are taking the test or doing an interview, you should continue working on these assignments.

Science (Block 2 only):
Please watch the video on Weathering and Erosion found in the Jones Students 07 folder, in the Science folder, in the Landforms folder. When you are finished watching the video you may finish your blog entry about the virtual owl pellet. If you finish that entry I would like you to start an entry about Landforms, Weathering, Erosion & Deposition. In this entry please briefly define landforms and give a few examples, and then briefly define weathering, erosion, and deposition. For this blog entry please assign it the keyword landforms.

Virtual Owl Pellet Dissection
Follow the link below and do several virtual owl pellet dissections. When you are finished do a blog entry comparing your findings in the various owl pellets you dissected.
